Caught up in the past

I have always been drawn to photographs of the past and the sense of time they portray. For some reason the past seems to offer so much more interest than that of our familiar present.

Here are some of my own images that fail otherwise but perhaps might do a little better were they captured at an earlier time.

Just playing around here, but would love to know if others have an equal footing in the past.

As a side note for any who may be interested, I have recently added a blog post on my website spotlighting the influence Stieglitz continues to have on contemporary photography.

This is a neat idea, and you've certainly captured the essence of the past in the present. At first glance anyone would think these were photos from history, but a deeper look tells a modern story. Is there any special software you use to age or just within Photoshop's tools?

Your post about Stieglitz was an excellent read. A welcome diversion from a full-blown flu! Before getting hit, we were in the midst of trying to solve some genealogical mysteries dating back to the mid-1700 and early-1800s. Your posts were a nice complement to what's going on.

Thanks Jenny, and I hope you're feeling better now.

The major processing was done in Lightroom, but I often export into Nik/Silver Efex 3 to check out what their presets have to offer.

How's your family search going? Did you find you are a descendant of any famous historical figures?

Lol - No one famous yet. Only starting on great grandparents now; so there's a while to go. Looks like it was the flu, and just starting to feel back to normal today finally .... maybe you could do a blog post or a post here on presets - default with PS, other free ones, and paid-for ones. I've only started to experiment with them, and that's only been with the default ones in PS. Hope you are well!

Glad you're feeling better Jenny.

I don't typically use presets, so perhaps someone with a bit of experience may oblige and educate the rest of us.
That said, I periodically check images using the Lightroom profiles, mostly to get a sense of options should I want to convert to B&W.

Same here for b&w or just to get some ideas of things that I might want to alter in an image myself. Well, if anyone is experienced with presets, I'd love to hear what they have to say!

The third and the fourth photos really stand out for me.
